Campus Licenses

If you have bought a single-user license, you can skip this chapter.

This chapter is for those of you who have bought a multi-user license. We have added a few extra features for you to make working with your students as easy as possible.

When you log in to Terrapin Logo, you usually enter your license code and a password if you have set one in your Settings (available from the Terrapin Logo Tools menu). Handing out the license code to young students and have them type in the entire sequence can be frustrating.

Therefore, we have assigned a campus name to your license. Our system generates this name automatically, trying to extract a meaningful name from the byer's name. If the buyer is a person, the campus name may, for example, be “jsmith”. This may not be a perfect solution, especially if the name is the name of a person in the accounting department, but as a starting point, it lets student use the campus name instead of the license code to log in to Logo.

If your organization is a little larger, you may want to have a better control over your student logins. Terrapin Logo offers various configuration options that let you upload a list of students with passwords, or take advantage of a single-sign-on service like ClassLink. You may even choose to skip the login process altogether.

Terrapin Logo offers many more configuration options for campus license users, which we will cover in this chapter.

Create Admin Password

Please have your license number accessible as you will need this to log in. Your license number is located on your receipt.

Go to https://weblogo.terrapinlogo.com You and your students will use this website to login each time. You may want to bookmark this site. You can access this website from any modern browser and on any device.

Alternatively, if you have the online receipt from Terrapin Logo, the license code will appear at the bottom of the receipt. Click on the license code which is also a link, the link will open the login dialog and fill in the license code for you.

The first thing you will see is the Login Chooser. Select the “with License Code option”.

Enter your license code. You will not have a password the first time you log in. Leave the password blank. You will set that up once you are logged in. You may want to select remember my license code to make future logins easier.

Set your password. From the menu select “Tools”, a dropdown menu will appear. Select “Settings” from the dropdown menu.

Create your password. You will leave the current password blank when setting up your first password. Should you decide to change your password in the future you will need to enter current password.

Desktop Version or Web Version?

So will you use the desktop executable (downloadable from https://www.terrapinlogo.com/downloads.html), or the Web version?

First: Both versions run the same version of Logo. When we post updates to Logo, both the Web page and the installed desktop executable update automatically.

The desktop version has two advantages:

  1. It offers full access to local disks. The Web version cannot save to any location other than the browser's Downloads folder.
  2. Together with a configuration file, the desktop version can log in students silently without having students enter any login information.

Also, the desktop executable changes infrequently, maybe once per year. It needs to be deployed to student computers, however, but a skilled administrator can take care of this task easily.

The Web version has these points in favor:

  1. No installation or setup is required. Students enter a link, log in and are ready to go.
  2. The Web version is available on any modern browser, including tablets and even smartphones.

It is up to you to decide which version is most convenient for you.

Admins: How to install silently

Logo installers can be run silently in Administrator modes. Here are the commands:

Windows: path-to-terrapinlogo-xxxxx.exe /S (note the capital /S)

Mac OS: installer -store -pkg path-to-terrapinlogo-xxxxx.pkg -target /

If you need to modify the logo.conf file (see next page), you will have to deploy that file separately.

Next: Configure Terrapin Logo
