We do about 10 weeks of programming with Logo in our 5th grade class. We start with the basics of drawing a square and a triangle and then add creating procedures. We like the math involved, the idea of procedures and recursion, inputs and then trouble-shooting when things don't work out. Following Logo, we use Alice to build worlds and have the students create actions for the objects in their worlds. We follow up in grade 6 using Scratch with the students. The classes meet once a week for the entire school year. Logo is a big hit with the students. They love to draw the shapes with repeats to see what happens and are eager to share the results with other students in the class.
